Anyone who has to manage larger handling projects but does not want to purchase every component from different suppliers usually has a difficult time. Josef Gartner GmbH from Gundelfingen therefore relies on vacuum technology and the expertise of euroTECH. Gartner, one of the world's leading specialists for glass, steel and aluminum façades, has to place its glass panes in a glass washing machine and insert them into façade elements after the washing process. For this purpose, the company purchased a customized complete solution from euroTECH.
The façade specialist Gartner from Gundelfingen was founded in 1868. Since 2001, the company has been part of the Permasteelisa Group, making it one of the largest façade construction companies in the world. One of its most recent projects was the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg. Gartner develops individual, unique solutions together with its customers. There is no standardized product catalog. From design, engineering, testing, project management, production and installation to the maintenance of highly complex façades, Josef Gartner GmbH supplies everything from a single source.
It is therefore hardly surprising that Gartner relies on a partner with similar characteristics when implementing its projects. "Finding a suitable partner was not that easy, because we wanted to carry out our entire glass manipulator project with just one company," says Dominik Glaser, who is responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection and new procurement of machines and systems at Gartner. "The first supplier was unable to offer a steel portal. The second was unable to maintain the required support distances on the steel gantry. A third was unable to offer us quick-change suction frames. Only euroTECH responded to all our wishes and was able to overcome all the challenges together with Gartner."
The aim was to be able to handle both very large glass panes weighing up to 800 kilograms and very small ones weighing around 80 kilograms with the same device. The steel crane gantry required for this was to have as few support legs as possible, which could only be located at certain points. The first lifting device was to be used to safely pick up glass panes from transport racks and place them on the roller conveyor of a glass washing machine. The second device was to pick up the glass panes later from the roller conveyor of the glass washing machine and place them in façade elements. A column guide for the lifting devices ensures very easy and precise positioning as well as fast movement of the panes. In addition to standardized vacuum components and lifting devices, the vacuum specialist euroTECH Handling GmbH also offers customer-specific complete solutions. In collaboration with Gartner, both parties developed a solution that has recently gone into operation. "We already had very precise ideas about what our future system should look like and what it should be able to do. euroTECH helped us to turn our ideas and requirements into reality," says Glaser.
The project was planned, designed and developed by both sides in close contact. Several departments were involved in the implementation of the project. "Once the basic requirements had been established, I went to Gartner together with our chief designer Reiner Nufer to get an idea of the location and to discuss all the other details," explains Gerhard Bossert, project manager at euroTECH. "In cooperation with Mr. Glaser, we implemented an individual solution in the following weeks that was precisely tailored to the tasks set by Gartner.
Gartner took advantage of euroTECH's experience, as the vacuum specialist had already built handling equipment for other large companies in the glass sector. The aim was to make assembly work easier for Gartner's employees and also to increase work safety and handling speed. "The new euroTECH system surpasses our old glass handling method in almost every respect. Previously, we had worked with normal glass suction cups and an overhead crane. Thanks to the simpler, safer and faster handling of the glass panes, our cycle time has now been increased," reports Glaser. "Since the start of commissioning, everything has been running almost smoothly. All employees who work with the system have given us positive feedback. That fills me with pride." Certainly a solid basis that will continue to be the foundation for productive cooperation between the two companies in the future.
